Abby Schmidt: WAXED
6.11.2009 - 7.18.2009

Abby Schmidt's work invites you to consider the lifestyle of children fostered by the intersection of the economy of food and the politics of war.  The show consists of two separate bodies of work; one that features melted wax on backlit acrylic panels and framed plywood, and painted assemblages on plywood.

The assemblages depict images of malnourished children in Africa and adolescent soldiers through the ironically playful arrangement of objects such as plastic toy soldiers, tanks, trucks and baby doll appendages.
